Shipshewana Blessings©™ News |
“Shipshewana Blessings” was the theme when over 240 women gathered for the Indiana State Quilt Guild’s winter retreat held February 1-4, 2007, in Shipshewana at the Farmstead Inn. Our book was featured in the weekend’s activities, and Janis and Edith gave lessons on making the quilt blocks. A highlight of the weekend was hearing the guest speaker, Rebecca Haarer, talk about the history of the town of Shipshewana and show some of her antique Amish quilts.
You can also see more pictures and read about Charlena Warfield's experience at the retreat at: www.doveinthewindow.com , just click on "Winter Retreat" from the home page to view the story.

Edith and Janis spent a Saturday recently at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, in Indianapolis, Indiana. As an event related to a quilt exhibit there, "Great Lakes Native Quilting," Edith and Janis demonstrated quiltmaking. This exhibit began February 24 and continues through April 23.
The following is a news release from the museum prior to the event:
Artists-in-Residence Edith Shanholt and Janis Nelson
March 4, 2006
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Shanholt and Nelson are the authors of the book, "Shipshewana Blessings©™." This book (and the quilt that inspired it) represents two cultures that have influenced Shipshewana, Indiana---the Potawatomi and the Amish. Shanholt and Nelson will work on quilt blocks for that quilt and the "Shipshewana Blessings" quilt will be on display.
